What Does SHSS Stand For?

Safety. Security. Longevity.

Senior
Home Safety Specialist®

SHSS stands for Senior Home Safety Specialist®, a certification offered by Age Safe America, LLC. You may have seen these letters behind a providers name or noticed the emblem on a friend, colleague or competitors website, stating they have earned the Senior Home Safety Specialist® certification. SHSS certification fills an important role for senior home safety, and is the only designation of its kind for individuals within the senior services industry.

This evidence-based online course empowers professionals with actionable ways to better help educate clients, older adults and their family members on the serious issues of home safety, fall prevention, fire safety, crime prevention, and the importance of a comprehensive home safety assessment and recommended home modifications.

The SHSS certification (Senior Home Safety Specialist®) is gaining traction throughout all categories of providers serving our older adults and those with cognitive decline. As falls have become epidemic in America, many licensed clinicians have a sincere desire to further enhance their knowledge in and around the area of home safety and performing a comprehensive home safety aging in place assessment. Much of the coursework is universal and has been taken by professionals throughout North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Over the years, 99% of registrants have stated they would recommend this course to other professionals.

Often professionals are referred to the SHSS certification by their colleagues, other staff members, or required by leadership as part of their onboard training. Many are looking for an additional credential to add to their specialties; or had been referred to the course as relevant and approved professional development for obtaining necessary continuing education units. Some professionals are adding comprehensive home safety aging in place assessments as an ancillary service and additional revenue stream to existing aging services business or other business model.
