This year, CNA Week 2023 is from June 15th to June 21st, with the theme of “We’re Unstoppable.” Certified Nursing Assistants (CAN’s) serve the elderly in skilled nursing centers, assisted living communities, and home health agencies. Age Safe® America will join the National Association of Health Care Assistants to celebrate, recognize, and pay respects for the incredible work that the nearly 1 million-strong contingent of frontline heroes bring to our elders and people with disabilities everyday.
The last three years mark an incredible moment in history for CNAs, who have had an incredibly positive impact on older adults and those who work in and manage nursing homes, assisted living communities, and in home care. This is a day for all provider organizations to join in celebrating their healthcare heroes via social media and throughout their centers.
The National Association of Health Care Assistants mission is to elevate the professional standing and performance of a CNA and other caregivers through recognition, advocacy, education and empowerment while building a strong alliance with health care providers to maximize success and quality patient care.
When you think of the most dangerous jobs in the U.S., you might imagine something like logging, fishing or truck driving. But in 2020 one of the deadliest professions of all did not involve operating heavy machinery, braving the elements or driving big rigs—but rather caring for the elderly. The pandemic’s high toll among nursing home residents is well known, but the impact on staff has been far less visible. Workers in skilled nursing facilities had at least 80 deaths per 100,000 full-time employees.
So today we say THANK YOU to this passionate and hard-working army of caregivers.
